Hello! Angela here, writing to you in my first of many blog posts for Dig In: Real Food Solutions, giving you ideas on how to soar through life feeling like a rock star.
As a former member, I am so excited to now be a part of the Dig In team. After my first season, in the fall of 2014, I felt amazing. I had this incredible energy all day long that I hadn’t felt since I was a kid. Instead of feeling tired, heavy and slowed down after every meal, I felt light and fueled, ready to continue with my day. When asked for feedback on my experience, all I could think of is how I wanted to feel like that every single day, and how I wanted others to feel that way too. I’m so looking forward to coaching you on doing just that.
So, back to being a rock star. There are plenty of tips out there on organizing, planning ahead, cooking techniques, exercise routines, what devices will make your life simpler and make you feel put together… But none of these will do you any good if you’re not feeling well enough to actually implement them. It’s time to stop looking for a quick fix in life and start making real, permanent, lifelong changes. As we say at Dig In, it starts with you.
What should you do first? I invite you to visualize yourself in “rock star status.” What I mean by this is, think about what your life would look like if you were in perfect health. What do you look like? What do you do every day? Who are you spending time with? How do you feel? Rock star status doesn’t look the same for everyone. For you, it could mean providing healthy, homemade meals for you and your loved ones every week. For someone else, it could mean maintaining a spiritual practice by taking time for themselves everyday. Or, maybe you just want to wake up every morning feeling energized and excited to take on the world, and keep that energy flowing throughout the morning, afternoon and night. The first step is knowing what rock star status looks like for you.
What’s next? Now that you have this beautiful, energetic and vibrant picture of yourself in your head, it’s time to make the first step towards becoming this amazing version of yourself. The changing of the seasons is the perfect time to make any lifestyle change. Fall is my favorite because I associate it with focus and going back to school. When everyone around me starts buckling down, I tend to be inspired to do the same. Fall is the time of year when I organize my routine so that I have time to do everything I need to live the lifestyle I want for the coming season. The first step? Food.
What does my rock star status look like? I’m a very busy person, as I’m sure most of you can relate, and my schedule can change significantly even just day to day. However, one thing that I know that can stay consistent is how I fuel my body to maintain my rock star status all day long. No matter what your rock star status looks like, you’re not achieving any of it if you don’t have the energy. That’s where food comes in. I invite you to ask yourself, What am I fueling my body with? Is it giving me any energy? If so, how long does this energy last? Am I crashing periodically throughout the day? If so, what am I doing when this happens? Are the foods I’m eating turning my power switch on? Or off?
